Don't get "washed up" when buying a car...

With 2010 fast approaching, you are seeing many New Years car ads and commercials, with specials and deals on Pre-owned cars or New vehicles. We tend to get wrapped up in the “awe” of buying especially if we think we are getting a “great deal”. We all want to think that people are out to help us and that most are honest in their reporting of a car, that is why it is best to ask questions and deal with a honest and reliable car dealership.

In Texas, weather changes daily and with the upcoming months, Texas will see a lot of rain and some flooding. When purchasing a used car, make sure that you are asking the right questions and investigating a bit further on car flooding and water damage.

Whether you are buying from a respectable dealership like Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Sherman, TX or an individual, it is OK to inquire and ask questions and it is your right to do so.

  • Check Carfax for flood damage reports
  • Turn the ignition key and make sure that accessory and warning lights and gauges work properly.
  • Check the trunk, glove compartment, dashboard, and below the seats for signs of water damage such as mud or rust.
  • Test power and electronics systems such as interior/exterior lights, windows and door locks, radio, cigarette lighter, heater and air conditioner several times to make sure they work.
  • Take a whiff… musty odors? Strong perfumes? Could be a sign of musty smell or water or mold
  • Wet wires will become brittle when dry, take a look at them and bend to see if dry or cracked.

At Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Sherman, TX we welcome vehicle questions and concerns and will work with you to find the perfect vehicle for you and your family.

What is a Kelley Blue Book anyway?

Obviously most of us have shopped for a used or new car, motorcycle or boat at some point in our life and most likely used the Kelly Blue Book (KBB). If you have not used the Kelly Blue Book, your not alone either, some have no idea.

The Kelley Blue Book is a handy little guide that gives the value for cars, truck and other items such as motorcycles or boats. Many times you will hear the seller or buyer quoting, “what is the blue book value”?

The KBB is most useful when purchasing a used car and is divided into several categories determined by the vehicle’s condition. A car that is in “good condition” will be at a higher value than a car is “poor condition”.

The Kelley Blue Book also lists trade values on vehicles. You can look up your used car or truck and access the trade value on that vehicle. If you are planning on trading your vehicle in, this can give you a good idea of that the value of your vehicle is, and what you are looking at in terms of the trade-in offer from the dealer. The used car blue book is quite popular and can be a huge help when considering the purchase of a used vehicle. It can mean the difference between paying the asking price and being able to negotiate down the price by a few hundred dollars or more.

The Kelley Blue Book is available both online and in hard copy that can be purchased at most book store. The online version of the blue book is an easily navigable tool that allows you to check used car values or new car pricing. There is also a Kelley Blue Book for several other vehicle categories, including boats, motorcycles and classic car and also is a new Kelley Blue Book "green" version"!

Make sure to take the "TEST"!

When thinking about buying a new car, one of things you need to put on your list is a test drive. Many people say that buying a car is one of the biggest investments you will make other than a home. With so many things to consider and actually it can get confusing, make sure that the number one thing that you do when in the decision making process, is test drive!

If you are thinking about a pre-owned vehicle, two test drives are recommended. This will be a little more time consuming, but it allows you the opportunity to evaluate the quality and the mechanical wellness of the vehicle. The test drive of a vehicle is an extension of the inspection process. It's your chance to see how the vehicle performs and whether you can detect any problems with its drive-train, steering, suspension, brakes or other important system.

Try to eliminate as many distractions as possible, and concentrate on the vehicle. You should try to drive any vehicles you're considering all on the same day so you can more easily compare them. Spend as much time as possible behind the wheel--at least 30 minutes--and drive it over different types of road surfaces and in various driving conditions. Plan your own driving route before you visit the dealership.

Walk around the car, take a good look. You might consider getting a pad and pen and noting the things you like about each car and things that concern you. Make sure you can adjust the seat and/or steering wheel for a clear view of important gauges, like the fuel gauge and the speedometer. Make sure your body is a “perfect” fit in the seat.

Whatever car you are looking for, whether a Dodge, Jeep or Chrysler~ make sure that you are comfortable and are sold on that particular vehicle.

For more information on test driving a vehicle, you can visit many the Consumer Reports site, or contact Hoyte Dodge in Sherman, TX or call (888) 246-7817 or visit us in person at 2300 Highway 75 North, Sherman, TX 75090.

Choosing the Perfect Car for You!

Cars are a necessity especially for those with hectic work and family schedules. They allow us to travel from one place to the next at our own convenience. But cars are a bit expensive and often, we find ourselves torn between getting a used car and purchasing a new one.

Buying an automobile is the second largest investment, you can make, right behind homeownership. So, why settle with a car you don't like and don't want. With the holiday season so stressful anyway, buying a car shouldn't be.

The first questions, you should ask yourself, are; What kind of car do I want? What kind of car do I need? Do you want to buy a new car, or are you looking for a great pre-owned vehicle? These two questions probably have equal weight in most situations, and they definitely narrow down your search for the perfect car. However, if you have four kids, that doesn't mean the minivan is your lot. You can get a perfectly good crossover SUV for the same price and same fuel mileage as that minivan.

Another option to consider is how much room you need. If you are seeking a big SUV find out how much the gas will run you. If you have kids you may consider getting leather seats so you will be able to clean them easier. If you are not good with directions you may want to consider getting a navigation system.

Look through a car magazine, such as Automobile, Motor Trend, Car And Driver, or others; look through the new car buyer's issue, which usually comes out once a month. These issues usually list all the cars available that year. Now that you've seen all the options, you have to begin to narrow down according to your necessities. Do you need a certain mile-per-gallon rate? Pay attention to the engine sizes of all the models being considered.

Determine how much you can afford on a car that fits your budget. Consider the monthly costs as well as the insurance premiums. Take some time to look at car reviews online from trusted sources to get a sense of the cars you are looking for, and then find a local dealer and arrange a test drive.

For more information on buying a car that is right for you and your family, shop internet, everybody is doing it.

All for a good cause……. for R.J.

The National Transplant Assistance Fund & Catastrophic Injury Program (NTAF) and several individuals have combined forces to hold a fundraiser to honor and benefit R.J. Hagood Jr.

Here is R.J.’s story

R.J. is a respected man and wonderful Father and Grandfather who resides in the Dennison, Grayson County Texas area. He is a board certified criminal attorney in Grayson/Collin and Fannin County and has lived in the area most of his life. He is married and has 4 children and has been blessed with 4 grandchildren which he adores.

R.J. is in need of a kidney transplant. Never has been unable to meet his medical demands, until now. With a kidney transplant expenses can go past the 200,00 mark and unfortunately he has no insurance. This transplant must take place in the next few months for a chance of survival.

Friends and family of R.J. have pulled together to host a Musical Festival in McKinney, TX on Saturday, November 21. All proceeds of this wonderful event will go to the NTAF to help R.J. and his family cover his medical expenses.

We are still the same at Hoyte......

Jim Ross here heading North on Highway 75 to Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Sherman, TX.

As I leave the hype and high price of the metroplex (the Dallas Fort Worth area). I wonder what has changed in the auto business in my 31 years. I see car dealerships owned by big auto groups and investment bankers. Where did the Dealers go, the family dealers, the small dealerships, you know... the ones you feel "at home" with?

I will say~at Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep in wonderful Sherman, Texas the dealer is always in! When my customers or clients have a problem or issue or even a concern, I know that I can get it solved and if I cannot, I find someone who can!

"Now" not only does Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep keep at least $10,000,000.00 worth of inventory on our lot both new and all types of vehicles at our used car super center, it is also nice to know that at Hoyte Dodge Chrysler Jeep the Dealer is "in" everyday and ready to serve the customer.

Give us a call, 903/818-9181 or come see us at 2300 Highway 75 in North Sherman, TX!
